Happy Harbor Days transforms Dana Point Harbor into a free walk-through holiday lights display from mid-November through early January — 700,000+ LEDs, a giant whale sculpture, lighted palm trees, the Merry Kiss Me arch, and a tunnel of lights along the harbor walkways.

Happy Harbor Days turns Dana Point Harbor into a free pedestrian holiday-lights destination from mid-November through early January each year. More than 700,000 LEDs light the harbor walkways, the marinas, and the breakwater pathways from dusk until dawn nightly across nearly two months.
Crowd-favorite installations include the giant whale sculpture, lighted palm trees, decorated Christmas trees, a giant Adirondack chair photo backdrop, the popular Merry Kiss Me arch, a tunnel of lights, giant beach-ball-style ornaments, Candy Cane Lane, and twinkling-tree clusters along the harbor walk. Strolling carolers add live music on select evenings, and photos and boat rides with Santa are available as ticketed add-ons during the run.
The display is distinct from the Dana Point Harbor Boat Parade of Lights — a five-decade evening parade of decorated boats moving through the harbor basin — and from the La Plaza Christmas Tree Lighting at La Plaza Park. The Boat Parade is a kinetic water event; the La Plaza ceremony is a single evening at the civic park; Happy Harbor Days is a multi-week static pedestrian destination. Families across South Orange County — Niguel Shores, the South Strands, the Lantern Districts — and the surrounding beach communities can plan a walk on any clear December evening.
Throughout the Dana Point Harbor walkways. The main entrance for pedestrian visits is near 34571 Golden Lantern Street; the display extends along both the east and west marina basins.
Mid-November through early January each year. Lights are on from dusk until dawn nightly across the run.
The walk-through display is free. Harbor parking lots charge daily rates. Photo sessions and boat rides with Santa are ticketed add-ons during the run.
The harbor’s east and west marina parking lots are the closest to the lights walk. Arrive earlier on weekend evenings — peak December weekends fill quickly. Overflow street parking is available along Dana Point Harbor Drive and Golden Lantern.
Yes — the harbor walkways are paved and smooth throughout, suitable for strollers and wheelchairs across the full length of the display.

Dana Point Harbor is a 2,500-slip pleasure-craft harbor cradled by a 6,000-foot rock breakwater at the south end of the Dana Point bluff. Developed in the 1960s and 70s along the coast historically described in Richard Henry Dana’s Two Years Before the Mast, the harbor includes a public walkway around both east and west marina basins, Fisherman’s Village-style waterfront shops and restaurants, the Ocean Institute, and the Dana Point Yacht Club. The Lantern District sits a short uphill walk inland and PCH crosses just above.
